57 Pounds Lost!
I started with Physician’s Plan, not because of me – but to help support my wife. She wanted to lose 20 pounds or so and I thought it would be really helpful to her if we were both eating the same things. If I lost a little weight along the way, that would be great. My family doctor did tell me to start doing some sit ups, but I didn’t have a big problem to worry about.
During the first visit I sat with Dr. DiOrio who explained my body mass composition test. I about fell over when he told me I was obese! What!?! Are you kidding? I knew I had a little weight to lose, but OBESE! I’m not here because of me – I am here because of my wife! Can’t we talk about her? After the initial shock wore off, I decided that the scales didn’t lie and that I had better do something about this.
In the beginning, they asked me to write down what I ate. Now, I am no professional, but I promise that when you start looking up and writing down what you eat in a day, you can easily see that eating lunch at Showmars everyday wasn’t helping my waistline! I thought that the staff at Huntersville was going to tell me to eat a bunch of salads, but they actually gave me lots of food suggestions that I really liked and could stick with. I was never hungry – in fact, I had to sometimes remember that it was time to eat! The best part of this was doing it with my wife. We laughed at the fact that we used measuring cups instead of serving spoons at the dinner table and we really enjoyed going on walks together at night. I ended up losing 57 pounds and 21% of body fat. I can wear jeans that I wore in high school again and I feel great. I have so much more energy than I used to.
Now, I still like to have ice cream every once in a while, but I don’t worry that I am ever going to weigh what I did before. Those days are over for me! I have kept off my extra weight for two years. And my wife? I am proud to say that she lost 30 pounds and couldn’t be happier that we joined Physician’s Plan. And Dr. DiOrio? He doesn’t say that I am obese anymore – he actually calls me athletic now! And my family doctor? He says that he is glad I decided to do a few sit ups...
